Thanks to all those who signed the Ecologist Petition

The campaign for an ecologist for Coventry has resulted in an agreement with the Warwickshire Ecology Unit to carry out the work of Coventry's Ecology Officer. The council will be paying £34,684 per yr for the examination of the weekly planning schedule and other planning involvements. There will be an initial survey (£7,106) before March. There is also an agreement to pay for any other work not covered by this, such as advice to other Directorates, on a pro-rata basis.

This should be a great help to everyone with an involvement with greenspaces in Coventry. It has also been agreed to find a straight-forward way for individuals and groups to make contact with an ecologist and the best way of encouraging public involvement with biodiversity.

This new service is available straight away. Below is a link to a more detailed report which Jane Green of Coventry FoE wrote as a press-statement. We're hoping a 'Biodiversity Working Group' will be re-established before long but in the meantime it might be helpful for you to let us know of any experiences with the new system.
