Batteries and CDs can Now be Recycled
Coventry FoE can now offer a free recycling service for all types of CDs, DVDs and diskettes. The materials in CDs such as polycarbonate and aluminium can be extracted and used for the manufacture of new components which require hard plastics and metals.  Diskettes contain three types of recyclable metal and two types of recyclable plastic.  Please bring all unwanted CDs, DVDs and diskettes along to Coventry FoE meetings.  They will be sent to the recycler in Kidderminster free of charge, courtesy of a Coventry organisation which also delivers these recyclates.

Birmingham FoE is the official collection point for old household batteries (not car batteries).  Batteries contain elements such as mercury, silver, cadmium, lithium and other heavy metals. These materials leak in landfills, can enter the water table and are even worse when incinerated.  Since both Birmingham and Coventry have incinerators, it is imperative that batteries are not burned.  To save you a trip to Birmingham to drop them off, the batteries can either be posted to Birmingahm FoE (Birmingham FoE, The Warehouse, 54-57 Alison Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 5TH), or they can be brought to any Coventry FoE campaign meeting, where John Verdult will be happy to take them over on your behalf.
