Friends of the Earth (FoE) has a network of more than 200 local groups across the country. Coventry Friends of the Earth campaigns on local environmental issues that affect the Coventry area, plus national issues which affect everyone. On a local level we are actively campaigning to keep Coventry and Warwickshire's food and fields GM-Free. We are also pushing for more recycling and campaigning against the Whitley incinerator. Our national campaigns have included the issues surrounding climate change and moves towards renewable energy such as wind and solar power. Over the past few years Coventry Friends of the Earth have achieved a number of successes in the local community. Coventry FoE were central to the successful ‘Stop the Crop’, which prevented a GM crop trial from being sown near Ryton Organic Gardens. Our most recent campaign has focused on 'Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy'. To get this message across we visited most of the local festivals over recent months with the successful Energy Garden Roadshow. Practical examples such as our Pedal Generator and Solar Fountain, plus useful information we provided helped us to convince people to change their electricity supplier to a company that sources from renewable energy. |
